Capitol Hill Ocean Week is taking place June 7-9, 2022, in Washington, DC, and online. This year’s theme, “Sea: The Future,” celebrates the 50 years of progress achieved, and sets a course for the new policies and actions necessary to sustain our ocean, coasts, and Great Lakes and transform our future. NOAA Booth: NOAA Lines and Programs have teamed up again to present a one-NOAA booth at CHOW. The booth will share a wide range of information about NOAA activities in the ocean and Great Lakes, staffed by Knauss Fellows.  Join us on the concourse level of the Ronal Reagan Building, outside of the Amphitheater.  Virtual Breakout Session: How the Ocean Decade can Empower the Next Generation of Ocean Ambassadors June 7, 2022 12:30 PM-1:15 PM ET OAR is hosting a moderated panel discussion on the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

The United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to achieve “the ocean we want” by conducting the “science we need” over the next ten years. Building on the theme of “Sea the Future”, this panel showcases the voices of diverse early career scientists, advocates, and entrepreneurs of the Ocean Decade. The panelists will discuss how the Ocean Decade can empower the next generation of ocean ambassadors and their vision for the future of the Decade, into 2030 and beyond. The UN Ocean Decade presents a tremendous opportunity for the U.S. to play a leadership role to help shape the future of ocean and coastal science, technology and sustainable development and set the course for ocean science over the next ten years, and beyond. Advancing U.S. ocean science, technology, and sustainable development capabilities through domestic and international partnerships enables the U.S. to achieve its goals of safeguarding human health, tackling climate change, ensuring coastal resilience and  promoting economic prosperity.
