All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance 2022 Forum

Join Acting OAR Assistant Administrator Cisco Werner and NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad for conversations on advancing the All-Atlantic Alliance, bringing the research community together with policy and civil society to discuss solutions for a healthy ocean.  The All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance AAORA 2022 Forum will be co-hosted by the United States and Brazil, in collaboration with the European Commission, over two events between May and July 2022.  From May 31-June 2, researchers, policy makers, industry, academia, and youth will come together to share innovations, co-create solutions to today’s challenges, and work towards greater cooperative and sustainable research throughout the Atlantic.  Scientific sessions will explore topics such as the ocean-climate nexus, ecosystem management, marine debris, and aquaculture to support a sustainable ocean economy, as well as cross-cutting aspects of data, infrastructure, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building.

Side events will also take place from May 23 through June 10. NOAA engagement at AAORA includes: Opening remarks highlighting the achievements of the All-Atlantic Alliance from AA Werner on May 31.  A panel discussing the future of scientific collaboration in the Atlantic, with participation from AA Werner on June 2.  Remarks from NOAA Administrator Spinrad on June 2, recognizing the diversity of contributions that partners throughout the Atlantic bring to AAORA and welcoming additional perspectives to the table.  The Forum is an opportunity to leverage ocean science, technology, and innovation collaboration to build stronger partnerships with our allies; demonstrate U.S. leadership in the global ocean science community; and emphasize to a domestic and international audience the important role oceans play in our economic well-being and addressing the climate crisis.

Outcomes from the Scientific Event will be highlighted at the Ministerial Event in Washington, D.C. the week of July 12-14. Building on the existing research and innovation in the Atlantic Ocean, this event will feature the signing of the All-Atlantic Ocean Research & Innovation Alliance Declaration, a basin-wide network in support of collaborative ocean research and innovation. The main ministerial event will be accompanied by side events hosted at several DC-area Embassies. For more information, visit the All-Atlantic Website.
